Miniature railway tracks in the old Manor Estate

Track by Bedford Road/Turnpike Lane taken April 2021 by Mick BarberWithin the boundaries of the old Manor estate, an Ickleford resident recently spotted disused train tracks and made an enquiry about them.

Thanks to two other residents, Colin Thurstance and Stuart Lindsey, it has been established that in the 1950/60s, the manager of the estate was a very gifted engineer and a miniature railway enthusiast. He built the steam engine and the railway track around the estate. There was also a track from the Bedford Rd end going down parallel with Turnpike Lane to the clock tower courtyard. It was reportedly very impressive to see the engine at full steam on the track.
