VE Day Anniversary Commemorations 8th May 2025
The Parish Council is holding an event on Upper Green in Ickleford to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day when the end of WWII was celebrated on 8th May 1945, and to pay tribute to all who served in the war.
Extensive research has been carried out by a resident to find information about local servicemen and -women who served in WWII and the findings will be displayed on Upper Green during the day and evening of May 8th. Another resident has contributed photos of the local area in wartime. School children will also be displaying their contribution on the green, a collaborative project.
There will be wartime music, food and drink from the pubs, a history lesson in the form of an air raid shelter supplied by a resident, and the evening will culminate in a beacon lit to the sounds of I Vow To Thee My Country. All are welcome and we look forward to seeing you there!
