Message From Ickleford Common Holders – Call For Help

More Help needed
When – this week, Tuesday 22nd and/or Thursday 24th  7-8pm
Where – Whitsun Common (part of Ickleford Common where the cows are)
What – Local volunteers needed to pull/dig out Ragwort (a toxic plant) before it goes to seed.
How – We pull the small plants out by hand, or bring a fork and dig them out.
Always wear gardening gloves. Then we’ll wheelbarrow the ragwort plants to the gate outside the common. Bring a wheelbarrow if you can?
Why – If we let the ragwort go to seed it will spread everywhere and there will be no grass for the cattle. Without cattle grazing, the common would soon be bramble and thistle, wild but inaccessible. It has been a good/bad year for ragwort, so extra help is needed.
Thank you to everyone who has helped so far, its been a great community effort, let’s hope more people come and we can finish it off!?
