Oughtonhead Local Nature Reserve
There has been a collapse of the river bank beside the waterfall, as you enter the Local Nature Reserve (LNR) from Westmill Lane. This has resulted in the river flowing through a hole that has opened beside the mill race and therefore not flowing over the waterfall. The river re-appears at the bottom of the waterfall.
The area has been fenced off for safety as there is potential for further collapse. It is going to be a long job to investigate what has happened under the water and repair the damage.
The river has found its own way and hopefully there won’t be too much change to the water levels throughout the fragile Local Nature Reserve.
The work is now in the hands of NHDC and the Environment Agency.
