Cadwell Bridge Proposed Works
Following the previous notice of works at Cadwell Bridge, Hertfordshire Highways and County Councillor Barnard have advised that the works have been rescheduled for w/c 10th February under permit number FM301BR6401000355755, as follows:
- Temporary lights will be set up and switched on from 09:30 on Monday 10th and then remain in place for the duration of the works
- Traffic survey to take place on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th
- Safety assessments will be made on Thursday 13th
- Drainage survey to take place on Friday 14th
The temporary signals will be set to run different phase lengths in the interests of testing volume, capacity and any delays – so if the traffic does not appear to be the same on any two days, this is in the interest of assessing and identifying the best timing cycles for the signals for vehicles, cycles and pedestrians. The road will not be closed.
Hertfordshire Highways’ proposal is to build a footway under the railway bridge with new traffic signals for proposed narrowed road which would no longer be wide enough to accommodate two-way traffic. The Parish Council has been requesting a pedestrian-controlled traffic light crossing at the bridge so traffic would only be stopped when someone wanted to cross under the bridge, retaining the two-way traffic system. The objective is to create the safest crossing with maximum traffic flow.
Highways are carrying out the works next week rather than during the following week which is half-term, so that normal traffic volumes and conditions can be tested and measured, anticipating the permanent installation of signals as local development plans progress to construction.
