Cadwell Bridge Proposed Works
The Parish Council along with County Councillor David Barnard has been working for over 12 years to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders at Cadwell Bridge. Our preferred solution is for pedestrian-controlled traffic lights, so traffic would only be stopped when someone wanted to cross under the bridge.
Hertfordshire Highways’ proposal is to build a footway under the railway bridge with new traffic signals because the road would no longer be wide enough to accommodate two-way traffic.
Highways have issued a works permit for five days from Monday 20th January at 09:30 for temporary traffic lights which will simulate the proposed new layout. During this time, under the closure, a drainage survey and a traffic volumes survey (vehicles, cycles, pedestrians) will also take place. The road will not be closed.
The temporary signals will be set to run different phase lengths in the interests of testing volume, capacity and any delays – so if the traffic does not appear to be the same on any two days, this is in the interest of assessing and identifying the best timing cycles for the signals.
